Customers appreciate the authentic American-style hot dog experience with a Japanese twist, highlighting the flavorful toppings and well-prepared sides like crispy onion rings. The diner’s passionate staff and welcoming atmosphere contribute to a positive dining experience, often complemented by craft beers. While not a typical hot dog joint, it appeals to those seeking quality sausages and a distinct Americana vibe. Some note that the diner can be crowded during peak hours, suggesting off-peak visits for a more relaxed experience.
Best hot dog I've ever had. Seriously. Just check out the photos!! The sausage is home made and so juicy and delicious. The buns are a cross between a soft baguette and a typical hot dog bun, again perfect. The prices are very good for what you're getting. The people working here have such a passion for their product. I can't recommend this place enough if you're in Tokyo.
The best hot dogs in Japan! Juicy handmade sausages and bacon go very well with beer. Best to go after 3pm on weekdays on weekends as it is crowded at noon on weekends.
A MUST-STOP IN NAKAMEGURO !!! This is the authentic stuff. An owner who has found a love overseas and brought it to Japan with personal, professional dedication. Dogs and toppings are handcrafted - world class. Great atmosphere. Craft beers. If you’re in the neighborhood, don’t miss it.
Sausages were good! They had plenty of options. We had the chili and the cheese options. It’s really not a hotdog though, it’s a sausage. So if you go looking for a regular American hotdog, you won’t get it. Still, really good food. Definitely one of the better ones in tokyo!
I ordered their special steak hotdog set menu (with onion rings and a pepsi) and was blown away with the taste. The sausage was juicy and had great flavour. The steak was med rare and seasoned well. The onion ring batter stayed crispy and was not soggy at all. Very happy with the service as the waiter was attentative and friendly. The shop had a distinct americana feel while remaining japanese.
Don't be fooled by the name or the interior decorating, this is not an American style hot dog, but it is an incredible meal. It's messy, but worth it. When I walked in they were playing American and British classic rock standards. Everything about this place seems to scream Western-style. But I've never had hot dogs like this before. It's not baseball stadium style, Chicago style, or cookout style. This is something unique. I ordered the namesake Skookum dog, with avocado, homemade bacon, cheese, barbecue sauce, chopped onions, and diced tomatoes. Maybe there are other things on it, too. It's packed with flavors, piled one on top of the other. The hot dog itself is not the emulsified scrap-meat sausage with the soft pink interior and the snappy skin that you expect when you hear the word "hot dog." Instead, it's a homemade smoked sausage that's made with real meat chunks and deep seasonings. It's got traditional hot dog flavor--onion, garlic, celery salt, paprika, maybe a little allspice--but a totally different texture. The bun is as soft as an American hotdog bun, but tastes fresh, not chemically conditioned. Of course, the bun is so soft that it lacks the structural integrity to hold the mountain of things that are packed into it. But that's okay, it's delicious. I grabbed mine with the wax paper folder they have on the tables precisely for that purpose. I ate as much as I could, in my hand, before I had to resort to a knife and fork for the last third. Big chunks of thick cut bacon--like the hot dog, it's not red/pink, but brown/gray, presumably because there's no nitrate preservatives--tumbled off the sandwich. It's an explosion of flavor: sweet, salty, smokey, vinegar, garlic. It's a battle royale of textures: crunchy, smooth, springy, juicy, rich. All of it hosted atop a great piece of sausage. I washed it down with an icey Dr. Pepper. Perfect. You probably don't need any sides, the sandwich is more than enough. But I'm planning to go back another time just to try the onion rings.
I kid you not. I came in and Stairway to Heaven started playing. I had the best hot dog in my life (I'm North American, I know my hotdogs). Quality meat, quality bread, awesome toppings. But the onion rings... Oh my. So crispy, freshly breaded, none of that frozen crap. It's a humbling experience when a Japanese cook beats any previously experienced North American cook at his own cuisine. 10/10 Absolute must. Tokyo and Japan is not about endless ramen. It's about work ethics. This place embodies it.
The staff is really friendly and this place has great vibes. The dogs are house made it seems, though they're more bratwurst than hot dog. They have a little bit of kick to them due to this, which is nice. The chilli dog is one of the best menu items to handle, everything else regulars knife and fork to not go everywhere. They know to give you lime with your corona(in the bottle, the way it should be). Overall, a great place chill with some drink and good food. It is a little on the pricier side for hot dogs, but the taste and portions are there.
